Does your ISP change your IP address? Dynu can help

3/30/2015

Like most websites, The Gizmo Editor is hosted by a third-party service. I have enough hardware to put the site on my home computer, but my Internet service provider - the local cable company - discourages customers from running home servers. One way they do that is by routinely changing my IP address.

Dynu Dynamic DNS Service gets around that problem by giving a home network PC or server a permanent address on the Internet. The Dynu client software keeps track of the IP address and keeps it linked to a specified domain name.

With Dynu's service, you can use your current domain name or register a new name. Either way, the name will remain glued to your server's address.

Another option is to add your server's identity to Dynu's domain. When someone requests "yourname.dynu.com" the Dynu DNS servers reroute the request to your computer.

Dynu's service can be useful in a variety of situations such as accessing your home computer from a remote computer, running a mail or game server at home, setting up a home security webcam or running a website using a port address that might be blocked by your ISP.

Dynu Dynamic DNS service is free and includes features such as web redirect, MX records, wildcard aliases, round robin support and custom DNS records (TXT, MX, A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, MG, MB, LOC, SRV, KEY, SIG, RP). For more details visit the Dynu website and check out the membership page. You can also follow @DynuSystems on Twitter.
