Nyrius makes home power outlets smart

3/23/2015

The typical home control systems that I see demonstrated at electronics trade shows are either built into a home during construction or retrofitted as part of a major remodeling job. Either approach to getting the convenience of wireless control costs thousands of dollars.

But with the Nyrius Smart Outlet, you can build a control system one electrical outlet at a time for less that $50.

The Nyrius outlet uses your home's Wi-Fi network to communicate with an Android or iOS device. You can use a mobile device to turn on lights, audio gear, floor fans and other small appliances whether you're in the next room or the next state.

The Nyrius control system lets users set a schedule to turn electronics on or off at specific times. it supports up to seven devices with Android or three devices with iOS.

The outlets also have a near-field proximity feature that will will work with a light or other device to turn it on or off when you enter or leave a room.

Nyrius is currently promoting a fundraising campaign at Kickstarter that offers backers one outlet for a $40 pladge or three for $110. Delivery is estimated for May, 2015.

Visit the Kickstarter and check out the video below to get a closer look at the Nyrius Smart Outlet.
