Soldering system can deliver precision heat

There was a time when anyone who wanted a personal computer had to be pretty handy with a soldering iron. Those Apple I computers that Jobs and Wozniak sold in the 1970s? Woz said he hand-soldered the motherboard in every one of them.

Like personal computers, soldering irons have come a long way in the past few decades. I'm sure Woz would have loved the TMT-9000S Soldering and Rework Station from Thermaltronics.

The system uses Curie Heat Technology rather than the ceramic heating element that Woz likely had on his tools. The new system uses physical properties of a ferromagnetic alloy to control the temperature of the tip. This allow the soldering tip to quickly reach and maintain a precise temperature that is right for the job.

The TMT-9000S comes with a power supply that has an LCD display and it uses changeable tips for different soldering tasks. The unit sells for $395 at the Thermaltronics website.
