OFA offers custom financial plans

4/21/2015

When I first looked for help to plan for retirement, I chose a well-known stock brokerage firm. Our advisor ran our numbers through their computer and presented us with a colorful set of charts and graphs and a login to their global website.

That was okay, but a little too impersonal and we soon moved on to a different firm.

That seems to be the challenge facing financial planners and investment advisors: how can they use technology but deliver it in a personal way? A company that appears to be moving in that direction is Online Financial Advisor, a service created by Capital Management Services Inc.

OFA uses virtual meetings to consult with clients who don’t always have the time or the  to travel to the advisor’s office.

“The financial service industry is mainly done face to face or in an office,” Capital Management’s Joseph Grissy told me. “Just having online availability to connect, do web conferencing and online meetings is a service that 95 percent of the firms have not implemented as of yet.”

OFA will also provide clients with a customized financial website where they can maintain all their bank and investment accounts under one portal. That should have a lot of appeal to people who like to manage their world from their keyboard.
