PixTeller is a free poster maker and design tool

12/23/2016

My family members tend to come to me when they need a poster, a birthday card or some other bit of design work. After all, I’m the one with photo tools, writing experience and a modicum of design skills.

The next time they come knocking, I plan to refer them to PixTeller. It’s a free online design tool that lets anyone make professional-looking graphics that they can print or post online.

You can start a project from scratch and dictate its size and shape or use one of the site’s templates to make a graphic that’s sized precisely for the popular social media platforms. The site has templates for graphics to post on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other services along with headers, ad banners and print projects such as greeting cards or business cards.

Using PixTeller, it took me about two minutes to create and download a new cover image for my Twitter page. I didn’t have to look up the optimum image size or fiddle with a cropping tool to get the look that I wanted.

The PixTeller library has more than 25,000 designs that other, often more talented users, plus more than 3,000 templates and thousands of images.

The tool is free to use at the PixTeller website. If you do a lot of graphics work and need designs that you can use for commercial purposes, PixTeller offers an upgraded account for $9 a month.
